Hope Lutheran Church was first organized in 1951 in Powell, Wyoming. In April of1952, 3 lots were purchased for the building of our current church home. A loan wassecured and the building was built in 1954. An addition was added in 1983 as our churchmembership grew. 1983 was the last major upgrade to our building. The church also previously built/owned a parsonage, which was sold several years ago asmany pastors prefer a housing allowance and to purchase their own home.Hope Lutheran Church has no debt at this time. We have a small but very generouscongregation. We are currently in the process of upgrading our sound system in theSanctuary (estimated at $20,000) and installing a new room (estimated at $100,000.)In 2023, our pastor decided to move closer to her family back East. We have had a callout for a new pastor and are in the process of interviewing a new pastor. This pastor hasbeen our interim pastor the last year and we have enjoyed getting more involved inchurch activities again as well as several community functions. During the 3 yearswithout a pastor, our members have stepped up to lead the services along with a laypreacher from Cody (about 25 miles away). While we have done well during this time,we look forward to having a full-time pastor again. Our congregation membership has gone up and down over the years as does anycongregation. We have several members who jointed Hope Lutheran in the early 1950’sand 1960’s who are still members today. We are a very close-knit family! We have an active Women of the ELCA group who have hosted bazaars and otherfundraisers over the years. A portion of the proceeds are used to help maintain churchassets, especially in the kitchen area. The rest of the proceeds are donated to worthycauses both locally and in the ELCA. The women’s group actually started before thechurch was formed by driving to Cody to participate with the Lutheran church over there.Hope also has two active Circles who hold Bible studies once a month. We have anactive Facebook page where our news and worship services are posted as well as aweekly newsletter to our members. Our current membership is fairly elderly and we are in the process of updating our soundsystem for members to be able to hear better during the worship services. We average39-40 members in church each Sunday and are hoping a new sound system willencourage other elderly members and non-members to attend.
